Signs of Chinatown

This project seeks to preserve a portrait of how Chinatown existed throughout the time when the photos were taken from 2021-2023. I had an interest in the design and craftsmanship of the vintage signage. The visual language was not quite entirely Chinese nor “American” but an interpretation of something that was inbetween or both. In that way, these signs are a metaphor for the identity of the people in the area and maybe Asian Americans at large.
